What 'gated' actually means here
Gated communities in Oakland County fall into a few types, and the difference matters for both price and lifestyle:

A note on 'gated' communities that aren't (verified)
Because so many listings advertise “gated,” here's an honest clarification, so you don't pay a gated premium for a community that isn't:
- Wabeek, Island Lake of Novi, and Prestwick Village are often marketed as gated, but we could not confirm staffed or road gates for them. They're genuine luxury/amenity communities (golf, private lake) — just not verifiably gated.
- Stonewater, Woods of Edenderry, and Tuscany Reserve are frequently grouped with Oakland County gated communities, but they're actually in Northville Township, which is in Wayne County, not Oakland.
